Somatropin is recombinant human growth hormone (191-amino-acid sequence identical to pituitary hGH) produced via E. coli expression. It binds the dimeric GH receptor to activate JAK2/STAT5 signalling, driving hepatic IGF-1 production, lipolysis in adipocytes via HSL upregulation, and nitrogen retention in skeletal muscle.
