Mechanism & research
Selank is a synthetic heptapeptide analogue of tuftsin developed at the Russian Institute of Molecular Genetics. It modulates GABAergic transmission, balances serotonin and dopamine turnover, and upregulates BDNF and enkephalin expression in limbic structures. Clinical work in generalised anxiety disorder shows anxiolytic effects comparable to medazepam without sedation, tolerance, or withdrawal, alongside improvements in attention, short-term memory, and immune cytokine balance (IL-6, IFN-γ).
